Here is a quick and yummy recipe for some mini fried mozzarella sticks. They had the perfect crunch on the outside and the cheese just oozes in your mouth. It's a perfect appetizer for guests before dinner, or a light lunch for the kids if you're not sure what to make them! Serve it with some delicious marinara sauce and you won't have to buy the frozen ones again!
Serving these right away, is your best way to go so that the cheese stays soft while the outside is crunchy!
I warmed up the marinara sauce to make the cheese melt even more! Or you can opt out on red sauce and dip them in ranch!
This was a really quick appetizer I decided to make the other day with the soup we ate for dinner. It didn't take too long and I had all of the ingredients on hand.
Whenever I go to restaurants, I always order mozzarella sticks as an appetizer because they're so good, how could I miss out on such an opportunity? I honestly thought they were more difficult to make at home, but it turns out I can save money and enjoy as many as I want right from home, with these homemade cheese sticks!
Prep Time: 30 minutes Yields: 12 Pieces
Cook Time: 6 minutes
Total Time: 36 minutes
INGREDIENTS
6 Mozzarella Sticks, cut in half
1 cup Flour
2 Eggs
3 Tbsp. Milk
1 Cup Panko Crumbs
1 tsp. Parsley
1 tsp. Oregano
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/4 tsp. Black Pepper
1/2 cup Marinara Sauce
INSTRUCTIONS
Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
In one bowl, add the flour. Set aside.
In another bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together until thoroughly combined. Set aside.
In a third bowl, add the Panko bread crumbs and all of the spices. Set aside.
One at a time, dip a halved mozzarella stick into the flour, coat evenly.
Then dip the cheese stick into the egg mixture, making sure that the whole cheese stick is covered.
Next, roll the cheese stick into the Panko crumbs until fully covered.
Place on lined baking tray, and repeat with the rest of the sticks.
Place in the freezer for a flash freeze, for 25 minutes.
Right before removing them from the freezer, add enough vegetable oil to a medium skillet to fill about 1 1/2 inches deep.
Heat it up on medium high. To test if the oil is ready, sprinkle in some water and if it bubbles, then the oil is ready.
Take out half of the sticks and one by one drop them in the oil (leave the rest in the freezer so the cheese doesn't get soft).
Fry for 3 minutes on each side, or until it is evenly crispy and light brown.
Fry the second batch.
Serve with the marinara sauce and enjoy immediately.
