Baked Chicken Wings

Chicken wings are probably one of my favorite ways to get my protein in! They pick up flavors extremely well and are so versatile! You can have them fried (my favorite way), grilled, or baked, a much healthier option that is still packed with a lot of delicious flavors and spices! These wings are more traditional and are a great side for rice dishes, or even as dish you bring to a potluck alongside some mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese! They were beautifully seasoned, with a secret ingredient that brought out that beautiful red color on the chicken - ketchup! This adds amazing flavor to the chicken wings along with a nice color that allows the skin to get crispy after broiling them! The cook on them was so perfect, the meat was falling right off the bone!

I garnished the chicken wings with fresh parsley for a beautiful contrast in color when serving them!

The most important part of cooking the chicken wings is the final broil at the end which gives great color to the chicken wings as well as a nice crispy outside.

Chicken wings were a staple growing up in my house. We weren't big meat eaters in general but when it came to chicken wings we all dug in! Now, my dad makes the best fried wings in St. Louis, hands down, but when it comes to baking them, I picked up a few tricks from my mom to make sure they come out as flavorful as possible with a nice texture to them. It's important to give them a slow cook in the oven to ensure that they are cooked all the way through and are very tender from the inside. That way when it comes time to broil them, they remain soft on the inside with a nice crispy finish on the outside!

I discovered the use of ketchup when seasoning chicken wings after researching some ways I have seen Middle Eastern chefs cook their chicken wings. It's a very simple yet effective way to give the chicken some color and added flavor! This was my first time experimenting with this little trick and I will definitely be using it a lot more often! Don''t worry though, your chicken isn't going to taste like ketchup! It'll have a very mildly sweet tomato flavor that when combined with the other spices is extremely delicious!
